March at Sunnyvale Public Library
Happy Women's History Month! This month we are hosting programs that recognize and celebrate the contributions of women throughout global history. Visit the Library to find recommended reads.
This month we are also celebrating the Persian New Year, also called Nowruz, which commemorates the beginning of spring.
Our collections have moved! Read on to find out where our cookbooks, Chinese language books for adults, travel guides and biographies now live.
Also in this issue: a talk on silent film [ https://sunnyvale.libcal.com/event/16418908 ], an allyship training [ https://sunnyvale.libcal.com/event/15604907 ] and a talk on the history of women astronauts [ https://libraryc.org/sunnyvalelibrary/145676 ].
Scroll down or visit our calendar [ https://www.library.sunnyvale.ca.gov/events/calendar-month-view ] to view more programs happening in March.
See you soon,
"Your Librarians"
*P.S. The Library will be closed Friday, March 27 for a Staff In-Service Day.*
Collections Move
Map of new locations for library collections
Our collections have moved! As part of an ongoing effort to rearrange our library collections, some of your favorite titles may not be where they used to be. These moves will ultimately grant our popular collections more room to grow, as well as make titles more findable.
Here are the collections that have moved:
* *Biography & Memoir* - We are in the process of pulling biographies out of Nonfiction to be their own easily browsable section. The new Biography & Memoir section is temporarily at the front of the Nonfiction Room behind the Teen Paperbacks alcove.
* *Travel Guides* - We have pulled travel guides out of the 900s to be their own section. These can be found to the left when you enter the Nonfiction Room from the Teen Paperbacks alcove (where Spanish books for adults used to be).
* *World Languages -* *Chinese* - Chinese books for adults have moved into the Nonfiction Room behind the Teen Paperbacks alcove. Eventually, our other world language collections for all ages will live in this room so families can browse books for children and adults together.
* *Cookbooks* - We have pulled cookbooks out of Nonfiction to be their own section. The new Cookbooks section is near the lobby, behind the Movies (where Chinese books for adults used to be).
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve the Library. If you have trouble finding a title or collection, our Information Desk staff would be happy to help you locate it.
Get Free Tax Prep Help
The tax help events at our Library are done for the year, but help is still available nearby. If you need help filling out your tax forms, you may be eligible for assistance from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) volunteers. The IRS trains and certifies these volunteers in tax law. They operate out of West Valley Community Services in Cupertino and some of our neighboring libraries.
Check the eligibility requirements and required documents [ https://www.irs.gov/individuals/free-tax-return-preparation-for-qualifying-taxpayers ]. Then use the button below to find a VITA or TCE tax event near you. Assistance is available in multiple languages. When finding a VITA or TCE tax event, please note whether the event requires an appointment.
