Immigration Forum & Community Resource Fair with Assemblymember Diane Papan and Senator Josh Becker Join Assemblymember Diane Papan and Senator Josh Becker for their Immigration Forum & Community Resource Fair on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon. As families prepare for the new school year, this event provides an opportunity to learn about recent immigration policy changes and their impact on Medi-Cal, SNAP and other services. After the Immigration Forum, attendees will be invited to participate in a Community Resource Fair and Backpack Giveaway for students and families onsite! RSVP required. Voluntary Campaign Expenditure Limits for Candidates Voluntary campaign expenditure limits are self-imposed spending limits that candidates choose to follow during the election. Candidates must verify whether they will opt to voluntarily limit their campaign expenditures. Aug. 19 Community Relations Commission Meeting - CAPER and Housing Funds Discussion Next Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m., the Community Relations Commission has a full agenda. You can join in-person or remotely for a public hearing on the draft 2025-26 Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluation Report (CAPER) and a discussion item on housing funds, where staff will present on current and prospective expenditures to address housing needs in San Mateo. The CAPER is an annual report that summarizes the City's accomplishments under its CDBG program from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The CAPER is reviewed annually by the Commission as one of its many CDBG-related tasks. The Housing Division funding strategy will also be discussed in greater detail at a City Council study session on Sept. 8. The Commission's discussion on Aug. 19 is intended to serve as an opportunity for Commission and community input, including from the City's many nonprofit partners, on Housing's funding priorities over the next five years. Join us in Conference Room C at San Mateo City Hall on Aug. 19, starting at 7 p.m. Members of the public are also invited to join the regular City Council meeting at City Council Chambers on Sept. 8, starting at 7 p.m. The public may also participate remotely via Zoom in either meeting. Library Updates   The Mystical & Bountiful Farallon Islands  Wednesday, Aug. 19 | 6-7 p.m. | Main Library, 1st Floor | Oak Room Join us at the library to learn about the history, wildlife and management of the Farallon Islands, a protected marine area 30 miles west of San Francisco. The islands are home to the largest seabird nesting colony in the lower 48 states, thousands of seals and sea lions, and other unique species found nowhere else.
