Door Dash's Dot: Red Robot [ http://city.fremont.gov/deliveryrobots?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]
Meet Dot: Fremont's New Autonomous Delivery Robot
Have you noticed a little red robot cruising around Fremont? That’s Dot, *DoorDash’s new all-electric autonomous delivery robot [ https://about.doordash.com/en-us/dot?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]*, built right here in Fremont!
You may see Dot traveling through parts of the city as part of a phased rollout. During this phase, Dot is helping map local streets and create a real-time 3D view of the environment to support safe navigation around pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.
Trained operators accompany the robots as they test and engage with the community.
Based on the results of the pilot and community feedback, an amended permit could allow the robots to operate autonomously within the service area, including Downtown/City Center, Centerville, and Irvington, with the capability to be operated remotely if needed.
Dot is designed to help deliver orders from local restaurants while safely traveling on neighborhood streets, bike lanes, and sidewalks. This partnership highlights Fremont’s leadership in advanced robotics while exploring new ways to support local restaurants and our community.
As the program expands, we will continue to monitor safety and gather community feedback.
*If you see Dot out and about, please:*
- Drive attentively
- Share the road and bike lanes safely
