In March 2026, the City of San Mateo launched the My San Mateo app and online service request system, making it easy to request City services in one place. Whether you're reporting a streetlight outage, overgrown weeds, graffiti or another concern, your request is sent directly to the appropriate City staff for review and response. The My San Mateo app is now available for download in the Google Play Store for Android. You can also download the app in the App Store for iPhone or use the online service request system on your favorite web browser. Learn More and Access My San Mateo City Services Academy Applications Due Aug. 5 We are now accepting applications for San Mateo's 2026 City Services Academy. The City Services Academy is a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that gives participants the opportunity to interact with City staff and learn about the challenges facing municipal government today. Participants will take part in case studies, site tours, class discussions and hands-on experiences. They will also have opportunities to meet with the City Manager, department directors and a member of City Council to learn about the City's day-to-day operations and how it implements new programs. City Services Academy is free to all participants. Participants must be 16 or older, live or work in the City of San Mateo, and have an interest in city government. Meetings will be held Wednesday evenings, 6 to 9 p.m., from Aug. 19 through Nov. 4 (excluding Sept. 30). Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at the San Mateo Police Department? Why or how we do what we do? The San Mateo Community Police Academy offers residents an inside look at how your police department serves and works alongside the community to keep San Mateo safe. This free 10-week program combines classroom instruction and hands-on learning led by San Mateo police officers and local law enforcement professionals. Participants will explore topics including: Traffic Stops & DUI Enforcement Criminal Investigations & Prosecution SWAT & Dispatch Services Crime Prevention & Crime Scene Investigations Police K-9 & Crime Reduction Unit Youth Services & Community Engagement Firearms Range & High-Tech Force Options Simulator The 10-week academy runs weekly on Thursdays, 6:30-9 p.m. at the San Mateo Police Department from Sept. 17 - Nov. 19. Applicants must live or work in the City of San Mateo. Citizenship is not required, immigration status is not a factor. Participants will undergo a background investigation before acceptance due to access to restricted law enforcement areas and information. Submittal of an application does not guarantee acceptance. The application period is open now through July 17. Every year, there are two ways to celebrate "America's Night Out Against Crime." Host Your Own Block Party You and your neighbors can host an event on your block that evening and invite the neighborhood and SMPD personnel to stop by. The true spirit of NNO lives within the neighborhoods, so we encourage you all to get together and plan events where you live. Something as simple as a BBQ or Ice Cream Social in your driveway is a great way to spend time meeting one another and talking about the safety of your area. Registration will open be open from July 1-24. The timing is optional but SMPD visits are scheduled between 6-9 p.m. The National Night Out Individual Block Event registration link will go live on July 1 and close July 24.
