Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday - November 29

As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re flooded with holiday ads—from Black Friday to Cyber Monday. But between these major shopping days is one that deserves our attention: Small Business Saturday (November 29). It’s a chance to support the local shops and restaurants that make Fremont unique.

Fremont’s small businesses are the heart of our community. They strengthen our local economy and help define our city’s character. With more than 3,400 small businesses employing over 27,000 people—about one in four local jobs—they play a vital role in our daily lives.

These businesses continue to face challenges, from rising costs to staffing shortages, and our support truly matters. This Small Business Saturday, and throughout the year, choose to shop local. Visit a favorite Fremont business—or discover a new one—to show your support.

Reduce food waste: photo of food and compost [ https://city.fremont.gov/composting ]
Reduce Food Waste This Holiday Season

Did you know more food is wasted between Thanksgiving and New Year’s than any other time of year? Keep yours out of the landfill with a few simple tips.

Where do food scraps go?
All food scraps and expired leftovers—including meat and bones—belong in your green compost cart. They’ll be turned into compost that supports healthy soil and reduces greenhouse gases. Need a refresher? Check the City’s *Composting Guide [ https://www.fremont.gov/government/departments/environmental-services/recycling-compost-garbage/composting-food-scraps ]*.

How easy is composting?
Collect food scraps and food-soiled paper in any kitchen container, then empty it into your green cart. Want a free countertop pail? Republic Services offers them through an *online request form [ https://www.fremont.gov/Home/Components/FormBuilder/FormBuilder/f8867c35698d46caa53ac6d6205216c0/66 ]*.

Hosting a holiday gathering?
Make composting easy for guests by setting out pails and clearly placing your green cart. Choose reusable plates, cups, and utensils whenever possible to cut down on waste. If not, paper plates and certified compostable wooden utensils are good alternatives and can go in the green cart.

By reducing food waste, you’re helping build a climate-ready Fremont. Thank you for keeping it green!
