Ensuring Road Safety: DUI Checkpoint on May 15

On May 15, the Fremont Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint from 7:00 pm to 1:30 am within the central part of Fremont. The goal is to improve road safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers. Police remind the public that impairment isn’t just caused by alcohol — drugs, including marijuana, and certain medications can also affect your ability to drive. Even though marijuana is legal, driving under its influence is still against the law.

Building Safety Month [ https://buildingsafetymonth.org/ ]
“Game On!” for Celebrating Building Safety Month

It's game time for safety! May is *Building Safety Month [ https://buildingsafetymonth.org/ ]*, a global campaign now in its 45th year that is dedicated to increasing awareness about building safety. This annual campaign helps educate residents and businesses on what it takes to create safe, sustainable buildings and highlights the crucial role of up-to-date building codes. The campaign is led by the *International Code Council [ https://www.iccsafe.org/ ]*, the leading global source of model codes and standards and building safety solutions.

Fremont proudly supports *Building Safety Month [ https://buildingsafetymonth.org/ ]*, recognizing the importance of safe and sustainable buildings in our community. Building codes help protect our community against threats like fires, severe weather, and structural failures. These codes safeguard our homes, businesses, schools, and public spaces. Our dedicated *Building and Safety* *team* [ https://www.fremont.gov/government/departments/building-safety ]* *works hard to implement these codes.

This year's theme, "Game On!", invites our community to participate in building safety. To get involved, visit the *Building Safety Month website [ https://buildingsafetymonth.org/ ]* and explore the weekly themes. You’ll learn how building safety impacts your everyday life, how to create a plan to support building safety in your community, and how to stay prepared for natural hazards. You’ll also learn about rewarding careers in building safety and get a glimpse into the industry’s global trends, including artificial intelligence.

“Get in the game” and join us in celebrating building safety!

Fremont’s Earth Day Fair - Celebrating 55th Anniversary of Founding of Earth Day

Fremont’s 2025 Earth Day Fair on April 19 was another successful event!

Mayor Raj Salwan kicked off the celebration at the Downtown Event Center, inviting hundreds of attendees to enjoy the festivities in honor of Earth Day, a tradition that began in the U.S. on April 22, 1970. Exhibits and booths covered a wide range of environmental topics. Attendees learned about local environmental programs and initiatives; explored sustainable gardening techniques; received a free bike tune-up; and discovered practical tips for sustainable living. Attendees engaged in interactive activities, while a juggler, live music, readings, and demonstrations provided some lively entertainment.

The City would like to thank all of the attendees, exhibitors, performers, volunteers, and staff who helped make this event possible! We would also like to acknowledge the *Tri-City Ecology Center [ https://tricityecology.org/ ]*, which has been around almost as long as Earth Day, forming in 1971! Additionally, we extend our sincere gratitude to our major partners: *Washington Health [ https://www.washingtonhealth.com/ ]* and *LEAF* [ https://www.fremontleaf.org/ ]. Everyone’s participation in the event demonstrates the strong commitment within our community to create a healthy, resilient, and climate ready Fremont.

What did you think of the Earth Day Fair?

We're always looking for ways to improve. If you attended the fair, please share your feedback with us through this short survey.
