Come discuss George Takei's "They Called Us Enemy" [ https://sunnyvale.bibliocommons.com/v2/search?query=They%20Called%20Us%20Enemy&searchType=title ]. In this graphic memoir, Takei describes his childhood experience of being incarcerated with his family in a prison camp during World War II. "They Called Us Enemy" is a "New York Times" bestseller and winner of numerous awards.

Read the book in advance of the discussion. Then come and share what you noticed, what you felt and, if relevant, your relationship to the history the memoir describes.

Starting Monday, April 6, copies of the book will be available at the Information Desk while supplies last. You must be registered for the discussion to claim a book. Registration does not guarantee a copy of the book. Librarian Film
IN-PERSON: Film Screening: The Librarians (2025)

*Thursday, April 23, 6 to 8 p.m.*

*City Hall Council Chambers*

*456 W Olive Ave.*

*Sunnyvale, CA 94086*

Join us for a screening and discussion of the award-winning documentary "The Librarians". The movie will be screened at Sunnyvale City Hall Council Chambers.

In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQ+ stories—triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of extremism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work—the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.

Registration is not required.
