Celebrate summer with Sunnyvale Recreation! July is packed with opportunities to connect, play and explore, from Fourth of July festivities and Parks and Recreation Month activities to camps, outdoor movies and neighborhood programs.

4th of July Celebration

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
Downtown Sunnyvale 

Celebrate 4th of July and America’s 250th anniversary with a day of free activities. 

The event will kick off with a bike parade from the library to downtown. Enjoy live music, a Ferris wheel, carnival games, amusement rides and more.

Celebrate Parks and Recreation Month

July is National Park and Recreation Month. Join the City of Sunnyvale in celebrating the power of parks, play and community. Explore a trail, visit a neighborhood park or participate in one of our summer activities.

Fall Activities Guide

The City of Sunnyvale’s Fall 2026 Activities Guide is just around the corner, packed with opportunities to stay active and connected. 

Discover a wide range of upcoming programs, including youth classes, school break camps, holiday events, senior services and community activities. Preview seasonal events including State of the City, Halloween Costume Swap, Hands on the Arts and the Senior Resource Fair.  

Mark your calendar for these key dates this summer:


* *Friday, July 17*: Preview the Activities Guide [ https://www.sunnyvale.ca.gov/recreation-and-community/classes-and-activities ] and all class listings online.
* *Wednesday, July 22*: Print guides begin arriving in residents' mailboxes.
* *Monday, Aug. 3*: Registration opens at 9 a.m. online, phone and in-person.

Save the Date for Sunset Movie Series

Save the date for the Sunset Movie Series in August. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a movie under the stars.

* Aug. 14 - "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" at Columbia Park
* Aug. 21 - "A Minecraft Movie" at Murphy Park
* Aug. 28 - "Elio" at the Sunnyvale Community Center

Stay active and connected with free and low-cost programs at Columbia Neighborhood Center. 

Featured This Month

*Summer Fun on the Run*

Children ages 6 to 11 can enjoy free games, crafts and recreation activities at Fairwood, Ponderosa and Columbia Parks this summer. View Fun on the Run locations and details [ https://www.sunnyvale.ca.gov/recreation-and-community/classes-and-activities/afterschool-activities ]. 

*Drop-In Pickleball for Beginners*

Enjoy beginner-friendly, recreational pickleball every Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Columbia Neighborhood Center Gym. Bring your own paddle and balls or borrow available equipment. A $3 suggested donation is welcome but not required. 

*Medical Services for Adults*

Free medical services for uninsured adults with limited income are available every other Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. Services include primary care, prescription refills and referrals. Appointments are available, call 408-568-3072, and drop-ins are welcome. 

Important Update

Beginning July 1, participants in Columbia Neighborhood Center drop-in programs must create an online account [ https://www.sunnyvale.ca.gov/recreation-and-community/classes-and-activities ]. Staff are available to help at the front desk.

* *Lakewood Playground Grand Opening:* Celebrate the opening of Sunnyvale's newest playground on Wednesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. Discover all-inclusive play structures, a dedicated toddler area and shaded spaces.
