Spring Challenge Launching April 18

The City invites community members to participate in our upcoming My Climate Ready Fremont Spring Challenge, taking place from April 18 through May 2, 2026. This two‑week event encourages residents to adopt simple, everyday actions that reduce food waste and support sustainable living. Every small step helps create a more climate-ready Fremont!

My Climate Ready Fremont (https://www.fremont.gov/about/sustainability/my-climate-ready-fremont) is a City platform that helps residents implement sustainable practices at home and decrease their environmental impact—all while building a resilient and climate-ready community right here in Fremont. The platform provides a wide range of actions—from easy, everyday habits like taking shorter showers to more complex projects like switching to a heat pump water heater. Each action includes details about environmental impact, potential savings and costs, and available rebates or local programs to help residents get started.

To participate in the My Climate Ready Fremont Spring Challenge, follow the steps outlined below:
* Visit myclimatereadyfremont.gov (https://myclimatereadyfremont.gov/) .
* Create a free account and select the Eat Green & Waste Less category (https://myclimatereadyfremont.gov/actions/categories/60) .
* From April 18 through May 2, complete at least ONE of the following actions: Compost (https://myclimatereadyfremont.gov/actions/3572) , Make a Meal Plan (https://myclimatereadyfremont.gov/actions/22027) , Bring Your Own Mug (https://myclimatereadyfremont.gov/actions/21941) , or Store It, Serve It, and Share It (https://myclimatereadyfremont.gov/actions/22028) .
* Create a group with family and friends if you want to make it even more fun! This is optional.

Completing at least one action enters you into a raffle for prizes. Those who complete all actions will be recognized by the City’s Sustainability Team. Groups are also eligible for recognition and prizes.

Be sure to complete your actions between April 18 and May 2, and thanks for doing your part to help create a climate-ready Fremont!

New Incentives for Home Solar + Battery Storage
Are you a Fremont resident planning to install a home solar + battery system—or already have one? If so, this new program may be a great fit for you!

Ava Community Energy (Ava) (https://avaenergy.org/) , Fremont's electricity provider, has launched SmartHome Battery (https://avaenergy.org/go-electric/residential-solar-storage/smarthome-battery/residents/) , a new residential program designed to make solar + battery storage installation easier and more affordable, improve local grid reliability, and support cleaner energy throughout the region.

Whether customers are installing a new solar + battery system, adding a battery to an existing solar setup, or already own a solar + battery system, SmartHome Battery offers installation incentives and participation payments to help customers get the most value from their investment.

Participating customers can receive 1) installation incentives for new or existing batteries and 2) monthly participation payments for allowing a portion of their battery storage to support the grid during high demand periods.

All Ava customers who install or already own a qualifying home solar + battery system may be eligible. Incentive levels vary based on income eligibility and participation choices. Enrollment is first‑come, first‑served and will remain open until program funds are fully allocated.
