Bay Area Agencies Unite for Super Bowl LX Emergency Preparedness
"Government and public safety officials encourage everyone to sign up for free emergency text alerts ahead of game day"
*"SANTA CLARA, Calif."* – With Super Bowl LX set for Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi’s® Stadium in Santa Clara, officials from the County of Santa Clara, City of Santa Clara, County of San Mateo, and City and County of San Francisco are joining forces to keep the public safe and informed. They are urging residents and visitors alike to sign up for free emergency text alerts so everyone can receive timely lifesaving information during Super Bowl festivities across the Bay Area.
The Santa Clara Police Department serves as the lead law enforcement agency for planning and implementing Super Bowl LX and FIFA World Cup public safety operations at and around Levi’s Stadium, in coordination with regional, state and federal partners.
“With thousands of residents and visitors expected in Santa Clara for Super Bowl LX, staying informed is one of the simplest and most effective ways people can help keep themselves and others safe,” said Santa Clara Police Chief Cory Morgan. “By signing up for local emergency alerts, community members can receive real-time information about traffic changes, weather or public safety updates that may affect their plans. These alerts help us communicate quickly and ensure everyone can enjoy Super Bowl week safely.”
This joint regional initiative will ensure that important emergency information about safety issues, traffic disruptions, or severe weather is shared quickly with all community members throughout the big game week. Bay Area officials are launching a unified alert campaign ahead of the game, making it easy for people in each county to opt in to location-specific notifications in the lead-up to Super Bowl Sunday.
Levi’s® Stadium in Santa Clara will host Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8, 2026. The event is expected to draw thousands of visitors, with celebrations and activities across the Bay Area leading up to game day.
“Super Bowl LX is a major multijurisdictional event that requires close coordination across county and city lines to keep our communities safe,” said Dana Reed, Director of the County of Santa Clara Office of Emergency Management (OEM). “By working closely with our neighbors in San Mateo and San Francisco and other jurisdictional partners, we ensure that every resident and visitor has access to timely, lifesaving information. Signing up for emergency alerts is a simple step that makes a big difference, and together, we can provide a unified, coordinated message that keeps the entire Bay Area prepared and informed throughout Super Bowl week.”
*How to Sign Up for Super Bowl LX Alerts:* Depending on where you will be during Super Bowl week, simply text the appropriate keyword to the corresponding number to receive urgent notifications from local public safety agencies in that jurisdiction:
* *Santa Clara (Levi’s Stadium area):* *Text SBLX to 888-777 *to get Santa Clara County’s emergency alerts for the Super Bowl. This will cover the stadium vicinity as well as countywide alerts.
* *San Mateo County: Text SuperBowl to 672-83* to receive San Mateo County’s emergency alerts during Super Bowl activities. Many visitors will travel through or stay in San Mateo County, so officials urge them to sign up for any critical updates along the way.
* *San Francisco:* *Text SuperBowlSF to 888-777* to sign up for San Francisco’s AlertSF notifications tailored for Super Bowl events in the city. San Francisco will host several Super Bowl week events, and this opt-in ensures you’ll receive any urgent alerts specific to the city.
Once subscribed, users will receive text messages if there are significant emergencies or public safety announcements in that area. Example messages may contain information about unexpected road closures, public transit updates, severe weather warnings, or any security incidents. By choosing the right alert sign-up based on your Super Bowl plans, you’ll stay informed and safe wherever you go during the event.
“We’re expecting thousands of additional visitors to travel throughout the Bay Area during Super Bowl week. While fans cross county lines, alert and warning systems do not. We urge all visitors and community members to text the corresponding keyword to sign up and receive notifications from the county where they are staying, and to check local transit providers such as Caltrain and BART for specific service information,” said San Mateo County Sheriff Ken Binder.
Importantly, local authorities note that these special opt-in texts are supplemental to each county’s main alert system and focus specifically on Super Bowl-related notifications. The Super Bowl alert subscription is temporary and event-specific. Once the game concludes, anyone who registered for alerts by texting the codes above will automatically be removed from receiving further Super Bowl alerts. Those already signed up for the primary local alert systems, such as Santa Clara County’s AlertSCC, San Mateo County’s SMC Alert, or San Francisco’s AlertSF, will continue to receive those routine emergency alerts to their preferred devices as normal.
“If you’re coming to the Bay Area for Super Bowl week, take a minute to sign up for local emergency alerts,” said Mary Ellen Carroll, Executive Director of the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (DEM). “It’s free, it’s easy, and it’s the best way to stay informed during a busy and exciting week here — text SuperBowlSF to 888-777 for urgent updates and official guidance from the City of San Francisco.”
As Super Bowl LX draws near, Bay Area public safety personnel emphasize that preparedness is a shared responsibility. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take these simple steps now to help ensure a safe and enjoyable Super Bowl week for everyone:
* Sign up for the appropriate alerts
* Plan for travel and weather disruptions
* Stay aware of updates
