Community Development Help Shape the Zoning Code Update The City's Zoning Code is being updated to align with the recently adopted General Plan 2040 and 2023–2031 Housing Element. General Plan 2040 was adopted based on extensive community input, and established policies around important topics, like what kind of development is allowed where, updated housing densities and revised height limits. Now, the City is asking for community input on how to improve the Zoning Code to be more user friendly and update standards that guide how new buildings look and feel and fit into existing neighborhoods. To support this discussion, we have published a series of white papers to provide context for the Zoning Code Update and support informed participation. This includes: . Building Height Limits Commercial Uses and Regulations Single-Family Residential Regulations Public Noticing Requirements Open Space Requirements Setbacks and Buffers We want to hear YOUR ideas about how the City can improve the Zoning Code and update regulations for these key topics. The Zoning Code Update - Key Issues Survey will be open through Monday, March 9, 2026. On the General Plan Implementation: Zoning Code Update section of the Strive San Mateo webpage you can get more details, provide comments, and sign up for the project email list. If you have any questions, please email the Community Development Department or call (650) 522-7212. Public Works Residential Parking Enforcement Resumes March 1, 2026 As a friendly reminder, enforcement of the Residential Parking Permit Program will resume on March 1. Parking regulations in permit-restricted areas were relaxed during the winter months, but starting March 1, parking rules will once again be enforced. Vehicles parked in residential permit zones will need to display a valid permit or follow posted time limits. What You Can Do Now Check your permit to make sure it’s current and easy to see. Renew or apply on the Residential Parking Permits page if you need a permit. Give visitors a heads-up about parking rules in your neighborhood. Beginning March 1, vehicles without a valid permit or that don’t follow posted signs may receive a parking citation. Have Questions or Need a Permit? Details about permit eligibility, how to apply or renew, and parking zone maps are available on the Residential Parking Permits page. If you have any questions, please call Public Works at (650) 522-7300. Thank you for helping keep our neighborhoods safe, accessible and easy to park in for everyone! Marina Branch Library Restoration Project Update Restoration is underway at the Marina Branch Library! The City started restoration in fall 2025. The upcoming improvements later this year will include energy-efficiency upgrades and a redesigned floor plan to better serve the community.
