When Councilmember Adam Loraine recently had to replace his gas stove, he opted for a more environmentally friendly electric stove and oven. Like Adam, San Mateans can also replace gas appliances that produce unhealthy emissions with electric technologies powered by Peninsula Clean Energy carbon-free electricity. To make the switch easier and more affordable, San Mateo residents are eligible for rebates to switch out gas appliances to electric. Currently Peninsula Clean Energy offers $2,500 for water heaters, $1,500 for HVAC, and $1,000 for electrical panel upgrades. In addition to electrifying part of his kitchen, Adam uses his electric bicycle and public transportation as his primary modes of transportation to City Hall, downtown San Mateo and most destinations on the Peninsula. They keep his commute active and light on the planet! If youโ€™d like to do the same, Commute.org provides rewards for sustainable commutes, where you can turn your trips into rewards.
