See local festivities and other news through this bi-weekly newsletter December 3, 2025 In this newsletter: Local Spotlight | Civic Brief | City Meetings | Did you know? | Upcoming Events   ** In observance of the holiday break, most city services and facilities will be closed from December 24 - January 1. The Community Center will be open December 26 - 31, but the front desk will be closed. **   LOCAL SPOTLIGHT   HOLIDAY TREE CELEBRATION Join the Holiday Tree Celebration this Friday, December 5 from 6 - 8 PM at the Veterans Community Plaza! Celebrate the holidays with music, performances and trolley car rides around downtown. Santa will be visiting for pictures until 8 PM. Please bring your own camera! Learn More FAMILY FUN DAY IN  WINTER WONDERLAND Join us for a day full of holiday fun! Family Fun Day returns on Saturday, December 13, from 10 AM - 1 PM at the Los Altos Community Center. Enjoy a scavenger hunt, festive crafts, games, and more. Bring the whole family and get into the holiday spirit! Learn More   ONE WARM COAT We are partnering with One Warm Coat this holiday season to collect new and gently used coats for those in need! Donate now through December 16, Mon – Fri from 8 AM – 5 PM. Our goal this year is 275 coats! Donation bins are located at the Los Altos Police Department and will also be at the Holiday Tree Celebration. Learn More HOLIDAY MARKET Get in the spirit of the season at this annual Downtown Los Altos Holiday Market on State Street, Thursday, December 4 and again on Thursday, December 11 from 4 - 8 PM each day. Enjoy live music and visits with Santa as you shop for holiday gifts & stocking stuffers from 50+ local vendors at this European-style night market! Employers with a business license or facility in the city must pay this rate to employees working at least 2 hours per week. The increase is per Ordinance No. 2016‑424 and the Bay Area Consumer Price Index. Learn more and download the 2026 workplace posters! Learn More   Special Needs Awareness Program The Los Altos Police Department’s Special Needs Awareness Program (SNAP) is a free, voluntary initiative that helps first responders provide individualized care for children and adults with special needs. Families who enroll share vital information securely with police dispatch, ensuring safe, supportive interactions and fostering a more compassionate community. Learn More   Reusable Foodware Requirement Get ready for a positive change when you dine out! As a key part of our single-use waste reduction law, a new requirement will take effect on December 10. All food establishments with on-site dining will be required to serve with reusable foodware. This shift will help us dramatically reduce waste. By dining in our local businesses, you're playing a vital role in building a cleaner, greener community. Learn More and/or View Resources for Food Facilities   Be Storm Ready The City prepares year-round in anticipation of the rainy season. You can help by keeping leaves out of gutters, trimming trees, and using sandbags to protect flood-prone areas. Free sandbags are available at the Municipal Services Center, 707 Fremont Avenue.  Learn More   Prevent Sanitary Sewer Backups The City sees an increase in sewer backups during the holiday season caused by excessive amounts of fats, oils, and grease entering the sanitary sewer system. To avoid causing costly and messy sewer overflows, the proper disposal methods are available for our residents to follow. View helpful tips and info on our website! Join the Conversation and/or Take the Survey   AB 413 Daylighting Law To improve visibility and safety at intersections, California’s AB 413 went into effect this year on January 1, prohibiting parking within 20 feet of marked or unmarked crosswalks and 15 feet of curb extensions. Citations and warnings may be issued for violations. Help keep our streets safe and avoid fines by parking responsibly!   Council Office Hours Notifications Our City Council holds office hours for the public to stop by and connect with our Councilmembers. Sign up for notifications or visit our Council Hours calendar. Upcoming hours are with Councilmember Lang on 12/5, Councilmember Weinberg on 12/6, and Mayor Dailey on 12/9. View City Meeting Agendas     HOLIDAY CLOSURE Christmas Break December 24 - January 1 In observance of the holidays, most city services and facilities will be closed from December 24 - January 1. Regular business hours will resume on Friday, January 2. The Community Center will be open (but front desk will be closed) with its regular hours from December 26 - 30, and December 31 with shortened hours. Emergency services will remain available.       DID YOU KNOW? The Los Altos Festival of Lights has been going on for 48 years! We just wrapped our 48th Festival of Lights last Sunday. Our community showed up and celebrated the joy of entering the holiday season. We appreciate our Los Altos residents and neighbors, and the city sincerely wishes a warm and safe holiday season.
