City Manager's Office City Facilities Closed for Fourth of July Holiday San Mateo City Hall and all city facilities will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. Parks and Recreation Closures All community and recreation centers and pools will also be closed in observance of the holiday. On Saturday, July 4, Beresford Recreation Center and its pools will be closed. The following parks will close at 6 p.m.: Seal Point Park Ryder Park Parkside Aquatic Park Shoreview Park Washington Park King Park On Sunday, July 5, Joinville and King pools will remain closed. Emergency Services Remain Available While city facilities are closed, emergency services remain available 24/7. Police and fire personnel will continue to respond to calls as usual. For any emergency, call 911. Fourth of July Celebration While our facilities will be closed, the Central Park Music Series will continue! Celebrate the red, white and blue with us at Fitzgerald Field in Central Park for a special Fourth of July concert on Saturday, July 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Have a safe weekend! Jerry Hill Honorary Street Ceremony Friday, July 17 Join the City of San Mateo for a special honorary street ceremony for former State Senator Jerry Hill and his decades of dedicated public service as a California State Senator, San Mateo County Supervisor, San Mateo Mayor and City Council Member. Event Details San Mateo City Hall – 330 W. 20th Avenue, San Mateo, CA 10:00 a.m. – Light bites and refreshments 10:30 a.m. – Ceremonial program begins Event concludes approximately at 11:30 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. RSVP for the Event City Clerk's Office Next City Council Meeting: July 20 The next City Council regular meeting will take place on Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m. City Council's Regular Meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, with exception of holidays and months of July, August and December when only one Council meeting is held. Agendas & Public Meeting Minutes Council Chambers Temporarily Closed for Construction July 21 - Aug. 14 Following the July 20 City Council meeting, City Hall's Council Chambers will be closed for construction from July 21 through Aug. 14. During this time, the following meetings will be held at the San Mateo Main Public Library, Oak Room, located at 55 W. Third Ave. Planning Commission: July 28 Planning Commission: Aug. 11 Sustainability & Infrastructure Commission: Aug. 12 Meetings are expected to return to the Council Chambers after Aug. 14. City Council Applications Open July 13 - Aug. 7 City Council seats for Districts 1, 3 and 5 will be on the ballot for the Nov. 3, 2026, Statewide General Election. The candidate filing period to run for office in San Mateo County opens Monday, July 13, and closes Friday, August 7. Community members interested in running for City Council should contact the City Clerk’s Office to learn more and schedule an appointment to begin the process. Water Safety Reminders With City of San Mateo’s Harbor Patrol Plan on enjoying the water this summer? Harbor Patrol would like to share a few reminders for keeping our waterways safe. Always operate your vessel at a safe and responsible speed, and abide by the speed limits of each zone. Be aware of designated kayaking and paddleboarding areas. Kayakers and paddleboarders should avoid entering Zone A. Idling and loitering in Zone A is prohibited. Maintain at least 50 feet of distance from residential shorelines and private docks. Boating that creates large wakes is prohibited. Only one rider is permitted at a time for all towed water activities, including tubing, wakeboarding and water skiing. If you plan on operating a vessel after sunset, the speed is restricted to 10 mph, except in areas where lower speed limits are posted and required. And remember, all fireworks are prohibited in San Mateo. Leave the fireworks displays to approved public events and help keep our community safe! Central Park Playground Project - Construction Staging Area Expansion Starting mid-July 2026, the construction staging area fencing will be expanded to include the lawn area next to the Fallen Heroes Memorial. This area will be closed to restore the central lawn, including repairs to the irrigation system, sod laying and a critical 45-day establishment period to allow the new sod to establish a proper root system. For everyone’s safety, please use caution while in the area, stay focused and abide by all posted signage. Thanks for your patience during these updates. Public Works The Marina Lagoon Dredging Project is Underway The Marina Lagoon Spot Dredging Project is taking place in Marina Lagoon between June and October. A construction staging area will be located along the E. Third Ave. and Anchor Road pathway, and a temporary detour for pedestrian and bike traffic will be in effect during construction hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Please follow the pedestrian detour signs to access John Lee Dog Park and Bayside Joinville Park. The existing pathway will be available outside of construction hours. Marina Lagoon waterway users: Dredging locations will be in Zone A and Zone B under the Highway 92 overpass. For more project information, please visit our Marina Maintenance project webpage. Updates from San Mateo County County Meeting on Proposed Horizon Behavioral Health Facility Postponed to Tuesday, July 7, at 9 a.m. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has postponed its meeting to consider the final location for Horizon Treatment Services’ proposed behavioral health facility until Tuesday, July 7, at 9 a.m. The facility is being considered for either San Mateo or Burlingame. The City of San Mateo encourages community members who are interested in this topic to review the County’s meeting materials and share their input directly with the Board of Supervisors. The meeting will be held at the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Chambers, 500 County Center, Redwood City. Meeting details, including the agenda and information about how to participate or provide public comment, will be available on the County’s Board of Supervisors website. The proposed facility is a County-led item. The City will continue to monitor the discussion and share updates with the community as more information becomes available. Update from Caltrans Left Turns Prohibited in Active Construction Zones on El Camino Real in San Mateo County Through Aug. 28 To prevent gridlock and enhance safety, left turns are prohibited on State Route 82 (El Camino Real) in active construction zones within the cities of San Mateo, Burlingame and Hillsborough. In these construction areas, only one lane of traffic is open in each direction.  Vehicles may not turn left within the following sections of El Camino Real: Easton Avenue to Ray Drive through Aug. 3 Bellevue Avenue to Sanchez Avenue through Aug. 14 Hilltop Road to Peninsula Avenue through Aug. 28 These left-turn restrictions are in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the duration of construction in each listed work zone.  Library Updates   House of Samba Kids! Tuesday, July 7 | Hillsdale and Main Libraries Experience the rhythm and energy of House of Samba Kids!
