Flushing Mains Safeguards Water Quality

Using fire hydrants, Water & Sewer Utilities flushes water mains throughout Santa Clara. It's a common practice used by water agencies to keep water quality at the highest levels possible.

* Removes sediments
* Prevents stagnation
* Ensured proper water flow for fire protection
* Exercises valves, keeping them working properly
* Finds issues that may need repair

After flushing in your neighborhood, water may temporarily be cloudy, discolored or have sediment. Turn water on from an outside hose bib until it runs clear.

Santa Clara is committed to conservation; we flush only to the extent necessary to achieve the high-water quality standards that you expect from Santa Clara Water.
